Girlfriends and Running

Running has been difficult lately.

The never-ending heat has just sucked the life out of my running journey.  Don't get me wrong- I'm still running, but I sweat a ton, have to take walk breaks (a lot) and it just hasn't been very much fun.  I have been doing shorter runs of 2-3 miles, struggling to maintain and not lose what I've worked so hard to achieve over the last two years.  I was nervous that I might be losing my running mojo.

Luckily, the weather is slowly cooling off and I'm beginning to enjoy my runs again, somewhat, and I think I might be finding my running mojo again.

I cranked out a 4 miler this morning and it wasn't too bad I hardly sweated, ha ha.  The funny thing is that I didn't want to do it initially.  I was coming up with every reason in the book NOT to run.  However, I knew that I had to run 4 miles, whether it was today, tomorrow or the next day, because I am supposed to be doing the Turkey Trot 5 Miler next Thursday.  I needed to make sure that I could crank out a run longer than 2 miles.

Anyhoo, for the first time in months, I spent some time looking into future races, meaning that I will most likely do future races which means that I will keep running and very soon here, will put together a true training plan for those races.

One race that I know for sure will hit the calender is the Zooma 1/2 Marathon.  I did it last year with my girl Christy (Ann came down and did the 5k race, too) and we've talked about doing it again in 2012.  It was by far one of my favorite races and the only *women's* race I've ever done.  Great support, camraderie, beautiful country roads to run, awesome locations, and on and on and on.  It is held at the Hyatt Regency's Lost Pines Resort.

Scratch that - I am DOING the Zooma 1/2 Marathon on March 31, 2012.

I was a Zooma Ambassador last year and thoroughly enjoyed being part of such an awesome group of women runners.  This year, Zooma is launching a new program called the Texas Girlfriend's Program.  Basically, Zooma is looking for beginner runners or those who have *fallen off the running wagon* and want to get back on to be part of 15 week training program.  Each person will be paired with a mentor/buddy who will be there to support and motivate you along the way.  You can train for the 5k race or the 1/2 marathon- you choose.

How freakin' cool is this?

I can think of so many of you lovely lady friends of mine that I would love love love to share this with.  Go ahead, check out the Zooma Texas Girlfriend's Program.  There is an application deadline of November 30th so don't file this away to be *done later*.   Also, there are all kinds of perks for those selected for this program.

So yeah, I'm going to train for Zooma.  I'm not an Ambassador or Mentor (yet) but I am already pounding the pavement with these trustworthy running shoes of mine.

Any of my running friends from the North, East, South, or West want to join me?  We could totally make it a Girls Weekend!

IJS.

Bari, Tiffany, Kirsten, Beki, Brooke, Christie, Melissa, TheaRenee?

Elaine, Christy, Amanda, Kim, Nicole, Tracey, Heather?

Lauren, Chris, Maria, Cheryl, Stephanie, Tanya, Paula, Jessica, Patsy, Celeste, Rebecca, Rhonda, Julie M., Heather?

Sounds like it would be REALLY fun!

I'm so happy to hear that you are getting your running mojo back. :)

Dude. Way to call my broken ass out! I would so LOVE to do this. Maybe I'll apply. I need a good reason to get my ass back in gear once I get the all clear. A half in March would be awesome.

I love and miss you, girl!

I can't decide if training for a race 6 weeks before my wedding is a brilliant stress-relief/diet for the wedding - or a stroke of sheer insanity. Do I *really* need to add that to planning a wedding, renovating my house, having my fiance move in, teaching, and raising 3 kids?

Decisions, decisions.

Also a half marathon scares the bejesus out of me.

I'd love to get back into running, and this sounds like fantastic motivation! Thanks for posting the info!

Girl, I would so love to run this with you! The timing is actually perfect because our spring break starts the day before and it's smack dab btwn the Tink half in Jan & my 25k in May. Swinging airfare after doing Tink in January would be the biggest hurdle. Also, I prob don't qualify as a "fallen off the wagon" runner. I will definitely give it some thought tho!

Unfortunately, this is a no go for me, but only because o another race I want to do the same weekend. I'm putting my name into the lottery for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler.

I need to do this! I'm going to Blissdom though in February, so not sure I can do a road trip for a race. Also doing a girls road trip next month. My husband is awesome and generous, but I need to be mindful of life, you know? End of March is right in the thick of sports too. Maybe I'll sign up for a local race and train along with others.

Glad you're getting your mojo back. Someone (me twice) has been sick every week for the last two months or so! Has wrecked my fitness. Excuses, though. Time to get going again.
