This week's You: Capture assignment is Black & White,
meaning you capture photos in black & white.
Um, I think I just repeated myself- DOH!
Being the procrastinator I am,
I grabbed my camera tonight and tried to find inspiration in the mundane,
with what was inside my house.
This is exciting stuff, I know.
I now present to you sightings around my home.
No clean-up done.
Everything left where it was.
Yeah, my kitchen is always this clean, although "clean" is relative, isn't it?
Some of you might not think it clean, but to me, it IS clean.
Oh check it out, the blender is left out on the calender, next to the phone.
For easy access (snicker snicker).
Am I the only one who uses the kitchen island as a collector of crap?
Oh wait. This is not really true. I store all of my crap over here.....
This might be a little embarrassing.
Or not.
The "short" counter is mine, ALL MINE.
Back off.
Foam roller and tennis ball? Check.
Droid phone? Check.
Myriad of cookbooks? Check.
Diaper rash cream? Check.
(you never know when the cutie-patootie
will need some cream on his bootie, lol)
Two purses? Check (because one isn't enough).
Two unidentifiable plastic bags full of crap? Check.
I am 100% certain that I drive my husband absolutely bonkers
with this counter space alone. Check.
Moving on....or should I say, back to the kitchen island.
I like to cook.
At any given moment in time, I will have 4-6 cookbooks or cooking magazines
out and opened and dog-eared on the counter
I have no less that 4-6 cooking magazine subscriptions
and about 300 cookbooks (I am trying to hold myself back from purchasing anymore)
My current favorite is that Cooking Light cookbook showcased above.
LOVE IT.
And since I am talking about food,
did you know that I have a food obsession with these?
Really.
Cooked the right way,
sauteed in a little olive oil with garlic, salt, pepper and tomatoes,
I could eat these every. single. day. ALL DAY LONG.
Oh, oh, oh, wait for the next one....just wait......
My "work" space- look very closely....
I assume that I am not the only one who uses a cookie rack
to raise the old laptop off the table so that it's itty-bitty fan can cool it?
Right?
I am sure there is a better way to fix this, but my way is FREE.
I also assume that others out there use the same filing system as I do,
which basically entails throwing all my shit into a plastic container and only
going through it when I absolutely have to?
Sounds like a good organizational plan, doesn't it?
I can't say it's the most fool-proof method
but it is easy to shove away when guests come over unexpectedly.
IJS.
One last thing.
This picture? Of my baby? In black & white?
I LOVE IT.
Random. I know.

Holy crap! Not really. Because your kitchen is spotless compared to mine. Seriously. I *almost* want to take pictures to make you feel good. But then I'd have to get out of bed, and you know, take pictures of my piles o crap. Your baby is precious as usual.
I wish my kitchen were so clean. These are great shots. And your little guy is cute as ever. Great captures.
He is so gorgeous! And your kitchen looks spotless compared to mine..
I love a clean kitchen and it usually is clean but this morning, not so much! Must run dishwasher.
Oh and I love that expression on his face.
After looking at the pictures of your kitchen and your counter, both of which are infinitely cleaner than mine, I'm declaring this afternoon "clean up the shit day" although I won't use those exact words when I inform the wondertwins that their assistance is required. :)
ps-your little guy is so freaking cute!
Ha! This is great and I DID learn some stuff. ;)
Your 'short counter' is like my 'desk area' in our kitchen. Except there are no cookbooks there. But that's where all the crap lands.
And I found a tip in Real Simple magazine to lift your laptop with two door stoppers and that is what I have been doing (since mine usually sits on a upholstered ottoman) but the cooling rack is a brilliant idea too! You could totally write for a magazine...
And kiss that little boy's face for me. Please. :)
I love the idea of a cookie rack under the laptop!
Ha Ha! I love the tour of your kitchen... and the cookie rack - LOL :D
I love random! :)
And it looks VERY clean to me.
Steph
Your kitchen counter looks more organized than mine! I think I'll adopt your "organizational" skill of using a plastic container to collect everything. It seems when I have 30 minutes to prepare for visitors, I start to panic when I look at my counter! The plastic bin would calm me!
yeah, okay so your kitchen is waaay cleaner than mine. but i fully blame my hubby who thinks it's okay to wait 5 days before doing the dishes. plus i <3 your kitchen because it looks like it's about 3x the size of mine.
::sigh:: someday I will have a kitchen with space and light.
LOVE the last one!
Ok, this post I LOVE. I am terrible with kitchen counter clutter and I KNOW I drive my husband batty. My filing bin is not as fancy as yours. I use a cardboard box and only go through it when it's too full to add anything else to. For realz.
Cookie rack = brilliant. I burned out this laptop fan already once!
PS You know how much that clean kitchen makes me want to kiss you, right?
You forgot a picture of teh broken laundry basket, that is usually full of the kids clothes, unless I help fold or hang. You also forgot bathroom sink that if full of long hair and contact lense stuff.
...;) LOL to my wife
Look at that little nose all curled up! LOL!
